Witnesses
On 8th September the Committee called it's first witnesses to discuss two topics.
The first panel discussed gender dysphoria, NHS Gender Identity Services for adults, and general health of trans people. The witnesses were:
- Jess Bradley, Committee Member, Action for Trans Health
- Dr John Dean, Chair, Clinical Reference Group for Specialised Gender Identity Services, NHS England
- Terry Reed OBE, co-founder, Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES)
- Steve Shrubb, Chief Executive, West London Mental Health NHS Trust
The second panel discussed transphobia and hate crime, including trans people in press and broadcast media, press regulation, hate crime and legal protection. The witnesses were:
- Helen Belcher, Director, Trans Media Watch
- Professor Neil Chakraborti, Director, The Leicester Centre for Hate Studies
- Chief Constable Jane Sawyers, National Policing Lead on Transgender for the Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Coordination Committee of the National Police Chiefs’ Council
